Dr. Douglas Mack has been
a pediatric allergy, asthma and immunology specialist
for over 10 years. Dr. Mack is an assistant clinical professor
in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University. He
sits on the board of directors at the Canadian Society of
Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Executive for the OMA Section of Allergy. He
is co-author of clinical guidelines on the prevention
of allergy, oral immunotherapy, and anaphylaxis. Dr. Mack
is co-founder of Halton Pediatric Allergy clinic and PI at Ontario
Pediatric Allergy Research Corporation. While some patients with allergic rhinitis can be managed
fairly conservatively, for many patients this disease represents a major burden
in their lives and puts them at risk for greater co-morbidity. Treatments
can include immediate symptom relief but preferably pediatricians should
consider approaches that aim for long-term modification of these diseases.
