Dr. Sheri Findlay is an Associate Professor in
the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University. She is an Adolescent
Medicine Specialist with 20 years experience in eating disorders and is Medical
Director of the McMaster Children’s Hospital Pediatric Chronic Pain
Program. Dr. Melissa Parker completed her MD degree at Western,
followed by postgraduate clinical training at the Hospital for Sick Children in
Toronto. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine,
and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Allison Rodrigues is an Assistant Professor
in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University. She
is an adolescent medicine physician who returned to McMaster in 2016 after her
fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children. In this session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Findlay, Dr. Parker, and Dr. Rodrigues present a case study of a patient who presented signs of severe Anorexia Nervosa
as well as refeeding syndrome and the unexpected collaboration necessary for
safe and evidenced-based management. They discussed the timeline of the patient and the history that led the patient to be hospitalized. This started the collaboration between two different programs, that as a result, ensured a good outcome of the patient and getting them on the path of success. This session demonstrates the importance of collaborating and reviewing literature in order to properly diagnose, as well as ensure nothing is missed for the treatment plan.
