Dr. Jeffrey Pernica is the Head of the Division of Infectious Disease. His clinical interests include tropical medicine (he is a member of the Canadian Committee to Advise on Tropical Medicine and Travel), immunization (he is the co-chair of the Ontario Immunization Advisory Committee), and congenital CMV (he is the regional lead for the Ontario CMV newborn screening program). In this session of Faculty Development, Dr. Pernica discusses how the medical approach is highly dependent on an initial diagnosis. However, diagnoses are not sufficient enough and what matters the most are the patient outcomes. Dr. Pernica demonstrates this by providing a study and showing how diagnosis and outcomes are importatn to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
