4Q03 Lecture 11; This lecture argues why the Hamiltonian should arise as a local function in space, and this is used to motivate the definition of position-space fields. The local form for the hamiltonian of nonrelativistic particles interacting with only an applied potential is constructed, and creation and annihilation operators for particles in the presence of a potential are defined, leading to the "second quantization" of the Schrodinger field.
