This session features interactive collaboration with feedback from science communication expert Dr. Southwell, posing the question "How can your research help with today’s problems?". Each participant shares their research questions, aims, and outcomes and Dr. Southwell walks through the narrative points of each one and avenues they could explore to communicate their work outside of academia. This session is full of practical examples of ways to communicate your work, and helps participants look at their work in new ways.

Bio: 
Dr. Brian Southwell is a social scientist researching public trust in science, mental models of scientific research, and public risk perceptions of infectious disease. He specializes in science communication and is a Lead Scientist for Public Understanding of Science at RTI International. Dr. Southwell also co-founded the Medical Misinformation program at Duke University, where he is also an adjunct professor of Internal Medicine and a faculty affiliate with the Duke Initiative for Science and Society.
