Dr. Rae Yeung is a Professor of Paediatrics, Immunology and Medical Science at the University of Toronto, and a Staff Physician and Senior Scientist at The Hospital For Sick Children. The goal of Rae’s research is to understand the mechanisms governing autoimmunity. Rae uses Kawasaki disease (KD) as an experimental model for studying tissue-specific inflammation. Basic science findings have been translated into clinical correlates, which in turn are leading to new therapeutic interventions to improve the outcome in children affected with KD and MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children), the most severe consequence post SARS-CoV-2 infection in children. Rae is leading both national and international efforts to develop guidance for the diagnosis and management of MIS-C and to understand the pathobiology of the disease. Rae’s research is supported by The Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Genome Canada, The Arthritis Society, ZonMw and Reumafonds (The Netherlands), The Arthritis Foundation (USA) and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
