Abstract:
In this talk, Dr. Elisangela Teixeira will present an overview of psycholinguistic studies that have investigated the processing and acquisition of Brazilian Portuguese linguistic structures. First of all, she will briefly introduce the audience to the field of psycholinguistics and the experimental methods most commonly used in the field today. Then, Dr. Teixeira will present and discuss works that have investigated aspects such as the acquisition of gender, number, verbal affixes, and relative clauses and, in the field of language processing, papers that deal with coreference processing, agreement, and relative clauses. All discussions are based on experimental research papers with stimuli materials in Brazilian Portuguese. To conclude, Dr. Teixeira will present recent results from a Brazilian Portuguese eye tracking corpus of natural reading that examined different parameters of reading function words.
