Dr. Lori Billinghurst completed a two-year clinical research fellowship in the Pediatric Stroke Program at the Hospital for Sick Children). From 2013-2019, she was an Attending Physician and Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and University of Pennsylvania where she expanded the Pediatric Stroke Program, co-founded the Neonatal Neurocritical Care Program, and successfully designed and led several studies investigating functional, visual, neurocognitive, and epilepsy outcomes after pediatric stroke. She also has a passion for medically underserved Indigenous communities in Canada and has been providing pediatric neurology outreach care across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut for the past 14 years.
Dr. Billinghurst joined McMaster Children’s Hospital in 2021 as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and she is immensely grateful to be part of the Division of Neurology.
In this session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Billinghurst provides an evidence-informed update on recent advances in the pathophysiology, diagnostic strategies, and therapies for childhood arterial ischemic stroke (CAIS) and highlights the practice guidelines for the diagnosis and management of CAIS.
