In order to move towards care that is truly neurodiversity-affirming in paediatric feeding, eating and nutrition, it is essential to first be able to identify, evaluate and deconstruct the pervasive influence of neuronormativity in our systems, policies, practices and people. In this presentation, Anna will explore neuronormativity and its influence and then, drawing on their research, lived experience and advocacy work, will identify ways in which services and clinicians can champion change towards a future where neurodiversity affirming care is integrated into all levels of care.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe neuronormativity and provide examples of how it shows up in relation to paediatric feeding, eating and nutrition care.
- Reflecting on your workplace or on your personal practice, identify two ways that you can move towards a practice that represents the principles of neurodiversity-affirming care.
