Dr. Jan Willem Gorter. Pediatric Physiatrist, Professor of Pediatrics and associate member in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University. He is Director of CanChild and holds the Scotiabank Chair in Child Health Research. He is Editor of CHILD: Care, Health and Development. He initiated a teen-transition clinic and is the inaugural Chair of the Canadian Health Hub in Transition. He and colleagues at McMaster Children’s Hospital worked together to improve transitional care by creating tools and resources to support youth, including the MyTransition App.
Children with disabilities and chronic health conditions are living longer than ever before but they have more negative than positive health outcomes as adults, leading to health services challenges that demand research enquiry and action. In his work at McMaster, Jan Willem has found an interdisciplinary and patient-oriented approach extremely powerful to generate
knowledge and transform lives. This presentation will discuss the importance of bringing people together to better care, child health and development.
