Dr. Mary Zachos is an Associate Professor in the Department of
Pediatrics at McMaster University. Dr. Zachos completed her medical training at
the University of Toronto and her pediatric and subspecialty training at the
Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Zachos worked at the Hospital for Sick
Children after completing her training with a focus on pediatric Inflammatory
Bowel Disease (IBD). She joined the Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition at McMaster Children's
Hospital in 2009 transitioning from part-time to full time status in 2019. In this Faculty Development session, Dr. Zachos provides an update to CBME and highlights where we are currently located in the transition of our programs to a competency based medical education implemented by the Royal College. With Critical Care and Gastroenterology leading the way in 2019, by 2023 all programs and subspecialties will transition over to CBME. As a result in this transition, Dr. Zachos highlights through her data analysis that there have been an increase in entrustable professional activities EPAs and a decrease in ITER evaluations. As the programs continue to transition over to CBME, we are looking to the full implementation of CBME, forming a Pediatric CBME program evaluation committee, and engage stakeholders to optimize CBME to its full potential.
