Dr. Silvia Alvarez is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics, McMaster University, who will assess the impact of the prenatal diagnosis of heart disease for the general pediatrician. It will be an overview of the fetal echocardiogram, focusing on it’s accuracy and limitations. As well as a discussion of how the fetal diagnosis allows for optimization of delivery, early pediatric follow-up planning and, potentially, neurodevelopmental outcomes in patients with congenital heart disease.
