Dr. Sarah Khan received her medical doctorate from the University of Ottawa and came to McMaster for her pediatric residency training, followed by Infectious Disease Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Khan completed a CIHR Clinical Trial Network Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Sick Kids examining infant feeding in HIV and risk of transmission in a Canadian context. This was the focus of her Masters in Health Research Methodology at McMaster. Her research and clinical foci include Antimicrobial stewardship, Infection Control and HIV and infant feeding. Dr. Khan is the first author of the newly published Canadian Consensus Clinical Guidelines on HIV and infant feeding.
With advancements in HIV Care for pregnant and postpartum women, Infant feeding in the HIV context in Canada has come to the forefront of discussion. This multidimensional area of care has many intersections to consider; clinically, legally, and ethically. In this week's session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Khan describes the evolution and development of the newly published Canadian Consensus Guidelines.
