Dr. Christine Wang is a pediatric palliative care fellow with the Quality of Life and Advanced Care program at McMaster Children's Hospital. She also works as a general pediatrician with Jordan's Principle on Treaty 5 Territory and provides grief support for youth who are incarcerated.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, she examines the moral determinants of health defining quality of life acceptability for justice-involved youth in Canada’s cradle to prison pipeline, reflects on how disenfranchised communities historically mistreated by the healthcare system cope with death and medical neglect, reviews how evolving societal narratives surrounding the moral obligations of the medical profession have shaped the role of palliative care and explores the unique opportunities for truth telling and reconcili-action amongst health care providers using communication skills drawn from a palliative care framework.
