Our capstone is the development of a custom modular inverter platform, proven through McMaster Formula Electric’s race car. Rather than building a one off replacement, we designed a scalable architecture that converts battery DC power into precisely controlled three phase AC motor output through independent power, gate driver, and controller layers. This modular approach improves serviceability, flexibility, and future development while reducing reliance on closed, black box systems. Formula SAE gave us a demanding real world environment where efficiency, response, reliability, and integration all matter. We validated the platform through real hardware, from low voltage prototypes to closed loop motor control, demonstrating that the system is not just a concept but a working foundation for future electric vehicles, robotics, and industrial applications.
