Dr. Elisabeth Canisius is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and a paediatrician with the Child Advocacy and Assessment Program. She completed her undergraduate medical education and pediatric residency at McMaster University. She also holds an undergraduate and Masters Degree in Social Work from McGill University. Her clinical and advocacy interests lie in providing healthcare to children and youth in the care of child protective services with a focus on the impact of adversity on child health and developmental outcomes.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, she reviews Canadian data on children and youth in the care of child protective services including different types of placements and will emphasize the special health care needs of this population, while also introducing the Social Paediatrics and Resiliency Clinic (SPARC) at MUMC with participation of SPARC team members Ms. Brandy Lantz, social worker and Ms. Christine Shadd, certified child life specialist.
