Foaming in wastewater treatments causes disruption of operations, leading to time offline for the system, as well as presenting hazardous conditions to operators as foam overflows from tanks.
As foam can be caused by physical, chemical or biological upsets to the system, therefore it is difficult to predict when foaming will occur.
Under a partnership with Fibracast Ltd., the aim of our project is the design of a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) to effectively treat wastewater and design a foam control system to reduce membrane fouling and optimize plant performance by mitigating the effects of foam formation.
