Project Title: Mini-MBR: A Membrane Bioreactor On the
Go
Team Members: Sheel Ayachi, Nicole Liut, Max Rand,
Khushali Shah, Justin Tran
Faculty Advisor: Dr Jones
Industry Partner: Fibracast
Project Description (~100 words):
Under a partnership with Fibracast Ltd., the goal of this
project is to design a functional, transportable, small-scale membrane
bioreactor system that will be used to treat wastewater on-site from existing
sources. Using Fibracast’s own ultrafiltration membrane, FibrePlateTM,
and all necessary piping, alarms, and controls, the designed small-scale system
will treat post-bioreactor flow to produce clean filtrate. Key constraints of
the design include easily transportable, highly weather resilient, able to easily
attach or discharge from on-site sources, and finally able to operate under all
typical Fibracast modes of operation (including cleaning). The successful
completion of this project will allow for the promotion of MBR to a wider
audience and invite industrial or municipal partners to use this transportable
technology to test their specific wastewater chemistries with Fibracast’s
technology.
