Dr. Adam Fleming is an associate professor and program director of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program for the Department of Pediatrics. He is also a proud alumni of McMaster University’s chemical engineering program (and its musical theatre club). He did grad school in Biomedical Engineering at U of T and started his career in polymer research – until volunteering at Campfire Circle (formerly Ooch) somehow convinced him to become a Pediatric Oncologist. Training in Toronto, Vancouver and Boston, he worked at McGill before moving back to Hamilton in 2014. Dr. Fleming is the local PI for several clinical trials, and co-founder of the Pediatric Brain Tumour Study Group.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Fleming takes the audience on a quest to identify “driver mutations” and “actionable targets” - a cornerstone of cancer research today, as pediatric brain tumours have seen rapid shift in treatment approaches over the past few years.
