Dr. Joanna Humphreys is a paediatrician with
expertise in pediatric palliative care with the Quality of Life and Advanced Care Team at McMaster Children’s
Hospital. Joanna
completed her paediatric residency training, community pediatrics fellowship
and palliative care fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children. She worked at the Hospital for Sick Children as a
staff physician on the Paediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) and as a general
pediatrician at Credit Valley Hospital. Joanna's interests include physician
wellness, advanced care planning and childhood grief. Dr. Brittany
Anne Hoson-Jan is a paediatrician with the Child Advocacy and Assessment Program at
McMaster Children’s Hospital where she provides care and assessment of children
suspected to have experienced maltreatment. She did her undergraduate and
postgraduate medical training at McMaster University and McMaster Children’s
Hospital, including an 8-month advanced training experience with the CAAP team
prior to completing her residency. Brittany Anne has a passion for medical
education, particularly inclusive of patient and trainee safety, difficult
clinical encounters, and the recognition and response of children suspected to
have experienced maltreatment. In this Faculty Development session, Dr. Howson-Jan and Dr. Humphreys provide an update on the PGME from their role on the Positive Learning Environment Mistreatment subcommittee and provide examples of acceptable and unacceptable conduct for faulty and review studies conducted on academic bullying reporting. They end the session with what the PGME subcommittee is doing regarding learner mistreatment and how we can assist our learners.
