Project Description: The Unprecedented performance of the atomically dispersed ions has recently attracted great attention in different energy-related applications due to their exceptional geometric architectures and electronic properties compared to their bulk compounds. Herein, metal organic frameworks (MOFs) were utilized as a platform to facilitate the development of atomically dispersed Ni-doped nitrogen and carbon electrocatalyst for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction. The rational design of MOFs has assisted on isolating the formed single active sites resulting in superior selectivity towards CO with Faradaic efficiency ~99% at -0.68 V vs RHE. Additionally, optimizing the Ni concentration while producing the desired single atoms has been investigated. Different characterization techniques were carried out to get a deep insight on the structure/electronic properties of the newly developed electrocatalyst.
