Dr. Nasrin Samji received her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She completed her Pediatric Residency training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts in 2017. She subsequently pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at McMaster Children’s Hospital/McMaster University, which she completed in June 2020 and completed a subspecialty year in Pediatric Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Dr. Samji received her Masters in Public Health in Healthcare Management at Columbia University. She provides clinical care to children with blood disorders and cancer. Her current research interest is in thrombosis in children with cancer.
In this session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Samji discusses how iron deficiency anemia is a common problem in childhood and is the leading cause of anemia globally. It can result in multiple sequelae such as irritability, pallor, and fatigue, impacting quality of life as well as neurocognitive outcomes.
