Monika Duggal is the co-chair of Family Advisory Council who immigrated from India. Thabi Francis is a member of the Family Advisory Council, who immigrated to Canada from Zimbabwe and has been residing here for over 26 years. She is also a mother to two girls.
In part one of this session, Monika and Thabi present the lived experiences of immigrant families navigating pediatric healthcare, highlighting how language barriers, cultural differences, and system complexity can affect communication, understanding, and care transitions. Drawing on family perspectives, it aims to increase awareness and reflection among healthcare providers.
Dr. Karen Beattie is a member of the Family Advisory Council and a former co-chair at McMaster Children's Hospital.
In part two of this session, she aims to demonstrate how different types (e.g., advisory, constative, collaborative) and levels (e.g., project, policy) of engagement with MCH Family Advisors contribute value and impact to care for MCH families, both directly and indirectly.
