Dr. Ellery Cunan is thrilled to return to Hamilton as a Clinical Scholar with the Department of Pediatrics, working in the Division of Critical Care. He completed his Doctor of Medicine training at McMaster University, postgraduate training in General Pediatrics at the University of Alberta and PICU training at McGill University. Dr. Cunan then completed additional fellowship training in Pediatric Neurocritical Care at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. His scholarly interests include the complexities around the neurological determination of death in children, the organ donation process, and the use of EEGs in the critical care setting. He is also looking to continue conducting scholarly work on appropriately integrating and capturing EDI factors in research in the PICU. He is excited to be back at McMaster as a Clinical Scholar, as he also works to complete his Masters in Health Science Education within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Dr. Marina Mir is a pediatric intensivist trained in Barcelona (Spain) and Canada. She completed a fellowship in pediatric intensive care medicine at McGill and an adult ICU neurotrauma fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Her main interests are neurocritical care and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). She is currently doing her phD on cerebral hemodynamics in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease. She aims to bring acute brain care expertise to the pediatric population and shift cardiac based resuscitation to brain based resuscitation. Marina is a member of Neurocritical Care Society, their focused ultrasound group and the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Research Group. She loves being creative, getting lost in nature and playing ice hockey.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, they will provide an understanding of the origins of pediatric neurocritical care, its evolution, the upcoming neuromonitoring and brain-based resuscitation approaches for children.
