Permafrost Plantworks
Northern Canada faces a persistent challenge of high food prices due to the costly importation of fresh produce, exacerbated by harsh climatic conditions and limited agricultural infrastructure. In response, this video presents the design and feasibility of a vertical greenhouse in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
The Proposed Solution:
- A building that acts as both a greenhouse and community driven space
- Provides an opportunity for year-round local food production-- reducing dependency on imports and improves food security
- Uses innovative structural, water management, and energy-efficient solutions
- A sustainable model for harsh climate and limited agricultural infrastructure
