Government intentions stand at the
heart of debates about how big data can and should be used in
the Global South. Laura will present three government visions for
big data, discuss each vision's implications for the
changing relationship between citizen and state, and conclude by
considering the implications of Brazil's, India's and China's use
of big data for changing global power relations.
Bio:
Laura Mahrenbach is a research fellow
and lecturer at the Technical University of Munich School of Governance. Laura's
research focuses on the intersection of global power shifts, global
governance and technological innovation, particularly big data. She is currently the principal
investigator on a three-year German Research Foundation-funded project on
conceptualizing emerging powers.
