Dr. Anne Fuller is a general pediatrician and clinical researcher in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University, having joined McMaster in August of 2022. After completing her core pediatric training in Toronto, Dr. Fuller went on to pursue formal research training through an Academic General Pediatrics fellowship and Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in Bronx, New York. She is now pursuing a PhD in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University supervised by Dr. Kathy Georgiades. Her research is focused on the intersection of social and medical risk, particularly the effects of economic disadvantage on the physical and mental health of children with chronic health conditions and their families. Her research also aims to understand buffers at the family and community level that may offer protection in the setting of these risks with the goal of informing meaningful, scalable interventions.
In this core session of Grand Rounds, children with chronic health conditions and their families face cumulative risks to health due to adverse social determinants of health such as poverty. Capitalizing on the resilience of children, families, and communities, strengths-based approaches offer a way to promote health and well-being even in the context of social stressors.
