Dr. Brittany Anne Howson-Jan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and a Pediatrician in the Division of Child Maltreatment at McMaster Children’s Hospital. She will discuss how the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the health and wellness of adults and children internationally. Previous literature has indicated that in times of stress and uncertainty, the risk of family violence can increase. She will review aspects of the experience of the Division of Child Maltreatment at McMaster Children’s Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and review a selection of the literature on COVID-19 and other potentially comparable phenomena and their effect on family violence.
