Dr. Miguel Glatstein was born in Argentina and studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires. After working with Physicians for Human Rights, he moved to the Middle East and completed his pediatric residency. He spent a year in Vietnam before pursuing a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, and had the privilege of being mentored by Dr. Angelo Mikrogianakis—an inspiring physician and a true role model. He completed a two-year Medical Toxicology fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Poison Center in Denver. He currently serves as the Director of Medical Toxicology at Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, providing 24/7 consults for both pediatric and adult patients across multiple hospitals.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, he explores how medical toxicologists and emergency physicians collaborate in life-saving efforts for patients presenting with self-harm and suicide attempts through pharmacological means. It highlights the critical intersection between acute medical care and the ongoing need for psychiatric and social support.
