Dr. Kathleen Nolan is a child maltreatment pediatrician with the Child Advocacy & Assessment Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University. Her clinical interests lie in the overrepresentation of equity deserving groups in child welfare and strategies to mitigate bias in clinical practice. Outside of her work in child maltreatment Dr. Nolan has a keen interest in medical education and is the Chair of Student Affairs for the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Nolan will outline the basic structure and functions of the court system in Canada and the various ways physicians can be called to testify, describe the role of the medical expert in legal proceedings in Canada, particularly as it relates to cases involving concerns of possible child maltreatment and develop increased comfort and understanding of legal processes that will allow participants to feel more prepared when they receive a subpoena to testify.
