Dr. Jesse Papenburg practices Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre. His research focuses on the epidemiology of viral respiratory infections. He has led national studies on influenza, COVID-19 and RSV and has over 130 peer-reviewed publications. He actively contributes to national and provincial guidelines on RSV immunoprophylaxis, influenza antiviral treatment and SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics and treatment. Dr. Papenburg is also a member of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization and the Quebec Immunization Committee.
In this week's core session of Grand Rounds, Dr. Papenburg describes the burden of disease related to RSV in infants including the epidemiology and risk factors for severe infection, summarizes pediatric RSV prevention strategies, including the future use of long-acting monoclonal antibodies and maternal vaccination, and recognizes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the epidemiology of RSV.
