As a major source
of the world’s carbon emissions, the steel industry is constantly seeking ways
to advance towards a greener future. Basic oxygen furnace gas in particular
presents an opportunity to valorize greenhouse gases with an end-of-pipe
solution to be retrofit onto existing steel plants. Team 14’s Capstone project
aims to narrow down the scope of applicable separation and valorization
technologies, designing and evaluating candidate solutions which include COSORB
absorption separation and the Cativa process for the production of acetic acid.
